Meet Mr. Gerlof Reineker, general manager of Steinfort Glas in Franeker. Steinfort Glass specializes in processing flat glass for various applications. The company purchases large sheets of glass and processes them into products such as shower doors, office glazing, bus shelters, decorative glass and glass structures.
Glass processing includes the grinding process, in which cooling water carries the glass grindings into the water circuit. This cooling water eventually ends up in large settling tanks of about 20,000 liters. In these tanks, a sedimentation layer of glass grindings forms, which previously had to be removed twice a year.
Thanks to an innovative solution from Jongia, this manual removal process is no longer necessary. Jongia supplied agitators that keep the cooling water moving continuously, preventing the glass grindings from settling and allowing them to be captured.
The installation of these agitators was a challenge because they had to be placed under the floor of the basins. Despite the square shape of the tanks, Jongia has developed a system in which two agitators per tank keep the entire contents moving, preventing sedimentation.
